URGENT APPEAL

SAVE THE LIFE OF POLITICAL PRISONER SAHRAOUIE YAHIA MOHAMED ELHAFED
YAHIA MOHAMED EL HAFED, Saharawi political prisoner, member of CODESA, 43 years old, father of three children and supporter his family, was arrested on February 29, 2008 and tortured since that time for his political views and activism in favor of human rights in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara.

The Court of Agadir sentenced him to 15 years in prison and imprisoned into a cell with common prisoners. The judicial process, as is usual in cases against Sahrawi activists, not fulfilled any of the basic conditions necessary and obligatory for any process, starting with the cases against them, always false.

Faced with the humiliating treatment received, Yahia and his fellow, political prisoners Saharawis, Hasana Jalad and Mahmud El Barkaui, began a hunger strike since the day April 4 to enforce their basic rights as political prisoners and demanding to be separated from common prisoners and the right to receive visits from their families, access of the press, etc…
The response by the prison administration of Inzegan was ruthless and abusive. Handcuffed and beaten, Yahia Mohamed Elhafed and his companion Bouba Najem were taken to the prison of Ait Meloul and detained in solitary confinement.

Sick and weakened by the hunger strike that has lasted 43 days and the inhuman situation that lives in his cell, the health of Yahia Mohamed Elhafed is in extremely serious.

On May 15, agents of the Moroccan prison of Eit Melloul (Morocco) where he was being held in solitary confinement since early April, took him by force and without consent to the hospital in Agadir.

That is why we call on all solidarity Associations and all friends of the Sahrawi people, to take concrete action to demand a fair and dignified treatment for all the Sahrawi political prisoners and their immediate release.

Actions needed
* Demonstration with photos of Yahia Mohamed Elhafed and other Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan embassies and consulates, with delivery of letters.

* Send letters to the Moroccan and Spanish authorities and UN.

* Hanging banners and pictures in various places, demanding the immediate release of Saharuis political prisoners in Moroccan prisons.
